Word at a time.

A game for 2 people.

Word at a time is a game is a impro game however I think the skills it teaches are incredible useful if you are planning on doing any improvisation during stand up. The game is easy, Two people tell a story one word at a time. For example:

A: I
B: was
A: going
B: Down
C: the
D: shop

The idea is to tell a entire story with some kind of beginning, middle and end. First tme you try this you will find that you produce total rubbish Exspecaily if you are attempting to be orginal. Also at the beginning it will be very fragmented.

The aim of this game it to make it flow and to make the story make sense.

You will improve by doing two things:

1: being more obvious with your choice of words.
2: by using less descriptive word and action rather than talking.

Descriptive Bad:

We saw a big green smelly warty …

Talk bad, Action good:

I said "why don't we met up in the night so we can discuss the situation more with the girl who" SUDDENLY He punch me in the face

What this game teaches you:

This game is designed to pervent you from planning to far forward, by only do one word at a time you are unable to plan even a sentance. You will be amazed by how different the other people answer are and how different our partners of speech are. You have to constantly reevaualuate and search for the a word that fits in with the the sentance as it has been made. This is a excellent game to calm you don't a not painic when ypu are making that leap of faith, exspecaily when a audience has off footed you in the middle of a heavely written rant.
